It is with a heavy heart that ImmunizeDC shares that former director, Mrs. Dena Penner, passed away on August 7, 2024 due to complications with breast cancer. While fighting for her health, she stayed faithful to the work of the Coalition. This is a testament to her strength, resilience, grit, and selflessness that played out in every area of her life. Dena’s committent to the Coalition, which spanned over two decades will forever leave a footprint in the immunization space. However, more important than her work ethic was her beautiful spirit that she shared with us.
As Dena has finished her race, let us all pick up the baton and continue to forge ahead in this journey to advocate and educate our community through the work of ImmunizeDC. We will not allow her work to be in vain. We will honor Dena’s legacy through our continued pursuit of a healthy, informed, and vaccinated Washington DC community.
